Summary of Position:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for monthly general ledger close and various financial reporting to ensure they properly reflect the company's financial position in accordance with company policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Essential Job Function:

  • Coordinate and review data for the General Ledger.
  • Performs mid-level general ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and report, identify, and correct errors made by both internal and external personnel.
  • Review Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable reports.
  • Assist with researching and reconciling Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable variances.
  • Post journal entries related to AP/AR corrections and month end close.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Analyze all balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare Audit Schedules.
  • Support timely monthly, quarterly, half-year, and year-end financial close, including assigned journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of all operational management accounts.
  • Receives, researches, and resolves a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning account status, including communicating the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.
  • Have general understanding of inventory & production flows.
  • Interact with all departments at the Support Center and Practice levels.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; must be detail oriented and be able to multi-task.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounts payable principles, accounts receivable principles, accounting standards and industry regulations.
  • Experience in account reconciliation.
  • Must have strong computer skills and high degree of efficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Pivot tables.
  • Strong analytical abilities required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) a plus.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 95% of the time. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve such as computer keyboards, phone, photocopiers, filing cabinet, and fax machines in the event that the equipment may be used. Must be able to exchange accurate auditory information, as regularly communicates with staff members and leadership.

Key Performance Drivers: First 90 Days in Staff Accountant Role

  • Understand OP’s Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and month-end close operations.
  • Learn to navigate the various software related to AP/AR to assist with research.
  • Apply GAAP to real-world scenarios to determine proper accounting treatment.
  • Use knowledge base to assist with identifying opportunities for process improvement.
